Healthcare is changing rapidly. New technologies are emerging, care delivery models continue to evolve, and healthcare organizations are constantly looking for ways to improve quality, increase efficiency, and expand access to care. Those are all good things. But innovation should never become the goal. People should.
At Mountain Valley, we believe the best innovations are the ones that help us care for people more effectively and more compassionately. Technology is valuable when it helps us remove barriers to care, gives clinicians more time with patients, or allows us to reach families who otherwise might not have access to the support they need.
Our team embraces innovation because they understand that every improvement has the potential to make a meaningful difference in the lives of the people we serve.
One example is our use of telehealth. Many of the communities we serve are rural, and weather or geography can sometimes make travel difficult. Telehealth allows our providers to remain connected with patients and families during those times, ensuring they continue to receive guidance, support, and compassionate care even when an in-person visit isn’t possible.
Innovation also means looking for ways to better support the people who provide care. Healthcare professionals spend an extraordinary amount of time documenting care, coordinating services, and managing administrative responsibilities. While much of that work is necessary, every minute we can give back to our physicians, nurses, social workers, chaplains, and other caregivers is another minute they can spend doing what matters most—listening, educating, comforting, and caring for patients and families.
That is why we continue to look for better ways to work. Not because we’re chasing the latest technology, but because we’re committed to continually improving the experience of both our patients and our team members.
One of the things that makes me most proud of Mountain Valley is that our people never stop asking how we can do better. They embrace new ideas, seek opportunities to improve, and continually look for ways to provide more thoughtful, compassionate care. Innovation isn’t driven by technology alone. It’s driven by people who are committed to serving others well.
As you’ll hear in the accompanying video, Dr. Alyssa Buckenheimer shares how that spirit of innovation has shaped her experience at Mountain Valley. She speaks about using technology to expand access to care, support rural communities, and reduce administrative burdens so caregivers can spend more time where they are needed most—with patients and families.
That, to me, is what innovation should look like. Not replacing the human connection that defines hospice and palliative care. Strengthening it. Because every innovation should ultimately help us do one thing better: Care for people.
Watch the video below as Dr. Alyssa Buckenheimer shares how Mountain Valley is embracing innovation to expand access, support caregivers, and keep the focus where it belongs—on patients and families.
