A promise we make to every family

At Mountain Valley, we believe every person deserves to be treated with dignity, compassion, and respect during serious illness and at the end of life. That belief isn’t dependent on where someone lives, what insurance they have, or whether they can afford care. It’s simply who we are.

From the moment we meet a patient and family, our focus is on understanding what matters most to them and walking beside them with compassion, expertise, and support. We believe every family deserves that experience, and we’ve made a promise to our communities that we will never turn someone away because of an inability to pay.

It’s a promise we’re incredibly proud of.

Last year alone, Mountain Valley provided more than $500,000 in charitable care, ensuring that patients and families who could not afford our services still received the comfort, dignity, and compassionate care they deserved For me, this is where our mission truly comes to life. It’s easy to talk about compassion. It’s another thing entirely to demonstrate it by caring for every person who needs us.

Our clinical teams see that commitment every day. As Dr. Alex Waite recently shared, he regularly cares for patients who have no financial means to pay for the services they receive. Yet the care they receive is no different. As he put it:

“Everybody is treated the same regardless of their financial situation, their home situation. We go above and beyond to make sure they get everything they need during that really vulnerable time in their life.”

That’s the standard we hold ourselves to—not because it’s easy, but because it’s the right thing to do.

Of course, keeping that promise requires more than commitment. It requires a community that believes everyone deserves compassionate care.

Through the generosity of donors, grateful families, businesses, and community partners, Mountain Valley is able to extend that same level of care to patients who otherwise might not have access to the services they need. Every gift helps ensure that financial circumstances never become a barrier to comfort, dignity, or peace.

One of the things I love most about Mountain Valley is that we don’t begin by asking, “Can this family afford our services?” We begin by asking, “How can we help?” To me, that simple question says everything about who we are.

Healthcare should never be defined by someone’s financial circumstances. It should be defined by compassion. By dignity. By the belief that every person has immeasurable worth. That is the promise we make to every family. And thanks to the generosity of our community, it’s a promise we are able to keep.
